In Europe, a Master Goldsmith certification is awarded to a person by a committee of experienced Masters only after 12-15 years of extensive learning and testing. The distinction of "Master Goldsmith" (in Germany Goldschmeidemeister) is the highest level that one can receive in the goldsmithing trade and a distinction not offered anywhere else in the world other than central Europe. This is the centuries-old system of apprentice and teacher, a rigorous and superior method of career training resulting in the passing-down of techniques and skills from one generation to another. In the USA, programs and training for jewelry making are much less strenuous and a formal apprenticeship system does not exist.
This collection of lovely rings is meticulously crafted by a German born and certified Goldschmeidemeister. Few persons are privileged to have this designation of excellence and in Austin, TX, we are delighted to have a true master working on behalf of Rings Unique.
Cold forging precious metals means that each item of jewelry is created by hand from a solid piece of gold or platinum - carved-extruded-hammered-shaped-sanded-polished - never using a model, mold or die. It is jewelry making at its hardest... and its finest. The result is a custom one-of-a-kind wedding or engagement ring, a treasure and an heirloom. Cold forging produces gold or platinum rings of exceptional hardness because the metal was never melted or cast which can leave porosity and pits. The hammering actually compresses metal, making it harder than the original piece. This also means the metal is more scratch resistant to withstand the wear and tear of a life's journey. It will look as good in 20 years as it does today.
In this collection, simplicity is beauty. A small diamond or sapphire is preferred to complement - not dominate - the exquisite craftsmanship. There is a uniquely solid feel to rings crafted in this manner, a softness and unmistakable quality that does not exist in any another process.
