Mokume Gane wedding rings are descendant from the ancient Japanese art of folding and fusing layers of metal for Samurai swords. Picture a piece of plywood but instead of wood, imagine multiple layers of gold, twisted, curved and fused to reveal the unique folds of intricate laminations. Some artisans attempt it for jewelry but very few produce superior results. This collection also features unusual mokume rings with seamless crafting, an innovation resulting in graceful beauty.
Mokume looks simple in fabrication, maybe like painting a swirl on a metal surface. However, the technique is extremely difficult since the layers of metal permeate the entire ring to the gold lining, thus preserving, as well as revealing, layers of metal with each passing decade. These become more intriguing with each year, a fingerprint of a person's life on their ring.
